Johannesburg, XX February 2023: Black Brain Pictures has announced that they have received a total of 27 nominations combined from the Royalty Soapie Awards for their top two telenovelas namely, The Black Door and DiepCity.
The Black Door, which airs at 21h30 daily on eTV has captured the imagination of South Africa in its primetime daily slot on eTV. Now the series has garnered a strong showing of 16 nominations at this year’s awards, securing mentions in coveted major categories such as the Outstanding Writing, Outstanding Directing and Most Popular Drama.
Following on from its success at the awards in 2022, where DiepCity took home trophies in all the major categories. This year the hit daily drama has garnered 11 nominations including the highly contested Outstanding Daily TV Drama category, the Outstanding Directing category and the Most Popular Drama category, cementing its place as a fan favourite. “These nominations for our two telenovelas are a testament to the hard working and talented teams that worked tirelessly every day to create the magic that we see on screen.” Said Mandla N, Creative Director: Black Brain Pictures.
The star of The Black Door, Zamani Mbatha received two nominations. He is nominated in the Viewer’s Choice Best Actor category and in the the Outstanding Couple category alongside his co-star Sibinginkosi Tenza. Legendary actress Linda Sebenzo received a nomination in the Outstanding Female Villain category.
South Africa has also fallen in love with the dynamic fresh faces The Black Door has brought to Mzanzi screens, with Sibonginkosi Tenza, who plays Nandi Mkhize and Kwanda Manyathi, who plays Velaphi, securing nominations in the Outstanding Newcomer category.
