Johannesburg, December 2022: Black Brain Pictures has announced that it is returning to
its comedy roots in celebration of 25 years in the South African Film and Television industry.
To kick-start 2023, the award-winning production house will release a slew of light-hearted
and entertaining new productions that are launching in the first quarter of the new year.
For over two decades, Black Brain Pictures and its team of talented creatives have become
synonymous with creating dynamic, captivating and award-winning content that resonates
with mass audiences. Their first hit show was City Ses’la, a comedy show that kept viewers
in stitches for two seasons between 2005 and 2007.
Now they are going back to where it all began, starting with a new 13-part comedy series on
Mzanzi Magic titled Lenyalo Ha se Papadi.
“Over the past few years, the telenovela, drama and reality genres have been a hit with our
viewers. One genre we’re excited to also bring to the forefront on our channel slates is
comedy. We’re constantly ahead of the curve when it comes to viewer tastes and
preferences, and diversifying our line-up is a move we are confident our audience will
embrace,” says Shirley Adonisi, Director of Local Entertainment Channels at M-Net.
Through the show, South African audiences will be invited to explore the lighter side of a
family that is going through a divorce in modern-day South Africa. Lenyalo Ha se Papadi is
set to hit the screens every Monday, from 9 January 2023 on Mzansi Magic, Channel 161 at
8pm.
“We’re proud of the contribution we have made to the growth of the South African film and
television industry and we have enjoyed going back to the genre that started it all for Black
Brain Pictures. We can’t wait for viewers to enjoy some much-needed humour that we will be
bringing to the screens with our new productions,” says Mandla N, Creative Director: of
Black Brain Pictures.
Following on from their recent SAFTA winning movies, Black Brain are also working on some
made-for-tv comedy movies that will be launching in the first quarter of 2023.
“South Africans are known for their great sense of humour and with all the heaviness that is
going on in the world, we felt that this would be the right time to return strongly in the new
year on a humorous note with our upcoming shows.” Said Mpumelelo Nhlapo, Executive
Producer: of Black Brain Pictures. The Full details on the movies will be announced in due
course.
