The beautiful thing about doing something is getting the recognition you deserve and being awarded by the French government for the exceptional work they do must be a career highlight.
For Mandisa Zitha the director of the Encounters South African International Documentary Festival and Steven Markovitz who is the producer, founder and director of Big World Cinema, being presented with “Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters” medals last week at a reception in Cape Town byl the French government must have been a milestone a moment to server.
The Knight of the order of Arts and letters (l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres)is awarded to eminent artists and writers and people who have contributed significantly to furthering the arts in France and throughout the world.
French ambassador to South Africa, Malawi and Lesotho David Martinon presented
the Chevaliers de l’ordre des Arts et des Lettres to Mandis and Steven in Cape Town as
an Honorarium for their prestigious contribution to the South African and African film
industry.
“This honour recognises their significant contributions to the arts, celebrating their
talent, dedication, and impact on the cultural sphere in South Africa” said ambassador
David Martinon.
Both Mandisa and Steven expressed their gratitude said how they were honoured to be recognised and awarded by the French government .
