Digital Age Employing Digital Strategies to Reach Your Audience Think about it: In the digital age, a website has become one of the most essential tools an artist can have. It’s a place where you can showcase your work, share your story, and connect with potential buyers. Not to mention, it’s a great way to keep your audience updated on your latest news and events. But having a website is only one piece of the puzzle. You also need to employ the right digital strategies to reach your audience. Here are a few tips to get you started: Constructing Your Web Presence With the Right Content Now that you understand the importance of having a website, it’s time to start constructing it. The first step is to populate it with the right content. This means creating an artist statement, biography, and list of services. Be sure to showcase your work on the website as well—include photos, videos, and sound clips. And don’t forget the most important part: your contact information. Make it easy for people to get in touch with you. The design and layout of your website is also important. It should be visually appealing and easy to navigate. Use clean fonts and graphics, and keep the color scheme consistent across all pages. Think about what you want your website to achieve, and design it accordingly. The goal is to make it as user-friendly as possible so that people can learn more about you and your work. Exploring Different Platforms to Promote Your Artwork When it comes to getting your artwork out into the world, you have a variety of options. You could host an Etsy shop, or perhaps take advantage of various social media platforms such as Instagram or Twitter. However, having a website can be the difference maker for you. It allows you to go beyond what’s offered on other platforms, and present yourself with professional polish. From here, you can explore different ways to promote your artwork and reach new audiences. You might include a blog section, which allows you to share information about upcoming projects and events as well as introductions to pieces of your work that may draw in potential buyers. Or maybe consider engaging with potential customers via an email list; this is an easy way to keep in touch with people who already appreciate your work and might be interested in future updates and activities related to it. Having a website also helps attract attention from major art galleries and publications; it’s a great way for critics and buyers to become aware of what you’re up to without having to dig deep into social media accounts or Etsy stores for previews of your art. In the end, having a website gives you greater control over how people perceive your artwork—and puts all the latest updates about your artworks in one easily-accessible place for those interested in learning more about what you do! . Utilizing Visuals to Enhance User Experience A great website design is nothing without quality visuals. As an artist, you have the unique opportunity to use your artwork to directly enhance the user experience. Not only do visuals draw attention to certain areas of the site, but they also help break up the text and make the content easier to digest. Including galleries of your artwork on your website is a great way to showcase your talent and give potential clients a peek at what you’re able to produce. Additionally, high-quality images can be used for other purposes like as page backgrounds or logos. You want your visuals to represent the type of quality you’re aiming for with all aspects of your work, so make sure to pay close attention when selecting them. When incorporating visuals into your website design, strive for balance. Too much can be overwhelming, while too few won’t give the user enough information or entice them enough to stick around. Fortunately, there are plenty of options when it comes to visuals – from photos and videos, to illustrations and animations – so have fun with it! Leveraging Social Media to Grow and Connect With Fans Having a website as an artist definitely has its advantages, including being able to easily leverage your social media accounts to build your fan base. By having direct links from your website to each of your social media accounts, you can drive traffic

The Pros and cons of signing a record deal as an artist.

Introduction So you want to be a signed artist? It’s an admirable goal, and there are a lot of benefits to signing a record deal. But there are also some drawbacks, which you should consider before making any decisions. First, let’s look at the pros: as a signed artist, you’ll have the backing of a major label behind you. This means access to better recording studios, more marketing and promotional support, and sometimes even financial assistance. On the other hand, signing with a label also comes with some significant downsides. For one thing, you’ll be expected to tour extensively and promote your music tirelessly. You’ll also have less control over your own creative process, and may be forced to make music that doesn’t necessarily reflect your personal taste or style. So is signing a record deal right for you? Only you can answer that question. But it’s important to weigh all the pros and cons before making any decisions. Overview of Record Label Deals There are pros and cons to signing a record deal as an artist. On one hand, you have the security of having a team of professionals behind you, who are dedicated to helping you achieve success. On the other hand, you lose some freedom and control over your music. It’s important to weigh all the factors involved before making a decision that’s right for you.” Pros of Signing a Record Deal When you’re an artist, there are a lot of things to think about. You have to consider your sound, your image, and where you want to take your music. And once you’ve sorted all that out, you have to decide whether or not to sign with a record label. So, what are the pros of signing a record deal? Well, a record label can provide you with the resources you need to make great music. They can help you book gigs, promote your music, and connect you with other artists on their roster. They can also help you expand your fan base and reach new audiences. But there are also some downsides to signing a record deal. Record labels typically take a big chunk of your royalties, so you may not make as much money as you expected. They might also want control over your sound and image, which can be frustrating if you don’t agree with their vision. So, before you sign anything, it’s important to weigh the pros and cons and make sure that a record deal is the right move for you. Cons of Signing a Record Deal The obvious disadvantage of signing a record deal is giving up a certain level of artistic control. As an artist, you’re signing away the right to make all the decisions about your music—from what songs to record, to how they’re produced, to what kind of tour you’ll go on and where you’ll play. You’re also surrendering the lion’s share of the profits your music generates. Record companies typically take anywhere from 50 to 75% of the income your music generates, leaving you with a fraction of what you could be making on your own. Then there are the less tangible costs of being a signed artist. You may have to give up time with family and friends, or put your career on hold for months (or even years) while you’re on the road. There’s also the risk that you won’t sell enough records to make up for what you’ve given up in terms of control and compensation. How to Decide if It’s Right for You Now it’s time to make a decision. Is signing a record deal the right choice for you? There’s no one-size-fits-all answer to this question, but you can use some guiding questions to help you make the best decision for yourself and your career. Are you willing to compromise on some of your creative control in exchange for financial and promotional support? Can you handle the long hours and hard work required to promote the project? Are you prepared for potential conflict with label mates or personnel? Have you done enough research on potential labels so that you know what kind of support they offer? These are all important considerations when deciding whether or not signing a record deal is right for you. While there are definitely advantages of being signed, it is important that you weigh all the pros and cons before making a final decision. Advice From Signed Artists When it comes to signing a record deal, it’s always best to hear from people who are living the experience. So what do signed artists need to keep in mind? For starters, many singers advise newbies to read through the contract very carefully, line by line. That way, you’ll know exactly what is required of you and if you agree with the terms. In addition, artists should think about how long they’re willing to commit to a label—after all, this could be for multiple albums or many years. It’s important to remember that once the contract is signed, there’s no turning back and any changes will have to be negotiated. Moreover, it’s wise for an artist to look at other deals similar artists have signed in order to determine a fair rate—this will help prevent being taken advantage of or signing an unfair deal. Finally, it’s best practice to get a lawyer or trusted adviser involved during this process since they can provide valuable advice when making important decisions. Negotiating the Best Record Label Deal When negotiating a record label deal, it’s important to remember that your main objectives are to get the best financial deal possible and maintain the most control and autonomy over your music. It’s also essential to remember that a record label doesn’t own you, and you need to make sure that the creative rights stay in YOUR hands. The key here is making sure that all of the terms of your agreement are clearly outlined in writing. Everything should be spelled out—from how

A Deeper Look at Mr Lolo Rollins’ Musical Masterpiece, “Son of the Soil”

Son of the soil Get Yourself A Copy I am a South African musician/artist. I was born in Witbank. I currently have three albums under my name. The latest studio album is Son Of The Soil and it was released on the 4th November 2022. In 2016 I released Road To Azania and my debut was Maluju Africa in 2011. All these albums were released and distributed by Rollman Records I started working as a session musician in 1992 in Johannesburg. I was a keyboard player and a guitarist for many artists and bands, touring around the country and playing night clubs in Joburg. Up to this day I still work as a session musician for some of the big names in our country. Thank you. Working on ‘Son Of The Soil’ had so many challenges. The album has 14 tracks, so you can understand the amount of work I had to put in. I composed, played, recorded and mixed the whole album alone. I had to wear different caps throughout the production. The only time I was not involved was during the mastering stage. The album sleeve is also my design. This album was also done during the covid 19 lockdown, it was difficult as we lost relatives and colleagues. One had had to stay strong and work in isolation. The meaning behind the title, I can say it was taken from the only instrumental song on the album. Son of the soil is a person who is down to Earth. I`m talking about a brother`s keeper, a friend, a protector, a unifier and mainly a person who respects woman and children. We are living in a very painful period right now where males are causing so much pain to those who they are supposed to protect, so the world can do with a son of the soil right now. My sound is organic and ethno as I would love it to be. I try to be true to myself first before I can convince the next person. We call this style global grooves or world music. I fuse sounds and rhythms from around the globe and I sing in different languages, you can pick up the jazzy influences and some afro. I do believe music has no borders. Q&A With Prince Boykie: The Benefits of Pre-Relationship Counselling/Therapy

In the previous Q &A articles, we’ve been exploring and highlighting the value of Premarital Counselling/ Coaching or Relationship Therapy. In this month’s article we’ll be addressing the question of timing i.e when is the ideal or perfect time to seek Relationship Coaching or to acquire the services of a Relationship Coach? This has been a common question that I get most of the time not specifically from my clients, but mostly from random conversations around love and relationships. There are 3 basic phases or timing frames: The Pre- Engagement Phase  The Engagement Phase and The Post Engagement Phase. In this article, we’ll unpack what the Pre- Engagement Phase is and its attendant benefits What is “The Pre- Engagement” Phase? In a recent talk on a PODCAST, Christian Rookie a few days ago, the host asked me, Mr Prince when is the right time to embark on finding a Relationship Therapist or Relationship Coach? I mean when is it ideal to consult a Relationship Coach? My answer is as has always been all time: The perfect time is what I call The Pre- Engagement Phase. Simply put: The Pre- Engagement Phase is a phase where you are actively and intentionally single, not engaged or testing the waters. This includes experimentation or trying to heal from the previous failed relationship. By single I am referring to a phase where you’re not having an active relationship or partner but being actively and intentionally single (mentally and otherwise) and not being available to consider or pursue any advances or opportunities until you deem it the right thing to do and the right time to do it i.e date. By this I mean actively preparing yourself to now actively date, know what you want, what’s acceptable and unacceptable in your ideal relationship. Identify your ideal partner as well as check if your ideals of a perfect partner are realistic and practical, while you’re still alone. I’ve discovered through my engagements that a whole lot of adults do not know precisely what they want, as a result, in most cases they sell themselves short or settle for whatever is available whenever it is available What are the components of the Pre- Engagement Phase? Look at it from a perspective of vacationing to a distant, unknown country. What do we do when we’re taking a vacation/ trip to a new country or a country we haven’t been to before? Here’s what I’ve seen people do before jetting off for a vacation: They spent time, planning and preparing themselves with the sole objective of enjoying themselves and making it comfortable and memorable Yes, we prepare well in advance for a vacation/ trip of a few days/ weeks. We set aside a budge for it, even if it means compromising on some of the usual pleasantries, like going out for a movie or eating out as frequently as we usually do We research to acquaint ourselves with the Weather patterns in the country we’re travelling to so that we pack costumes, clothing that’s conducive for the type of weather we’ll be living in for that brief duration. We also pack up our preferred delicacies and snacks in case the country we’re visiting doesn’t have such in their country. We pack the type of food items essential to us once we’re there. We don’t wait to get there and start preparing but we get there prepared, before we leave home or our country We check how much it’s going to cost us so that we can factor that into the overall logistics of the trip The above is not an exhaustive list but it’s a fair comprehensive picture of what we normally or habitually do to plan a vacation of a few days or weeks. This indicates that we can plan, we can prepare. It boggles the mind as to why we often go into new relationships unprepared, and unplanned. Join us in our December article as we explore the Advantages of the Pre- Engagement phase Are you aspiring to have a solid, stable relationship? Then prepare yourself to be prepared for it.
